OWNER BIO

 

  • Leah Gangelhoff has owned and operated her own training and behavior business and has been specializing in canine behavior for the last 16 years - 5 yrs in Los Angeles and the last 11 here in Birmingham, AL. During that time she has developed private comprehensive education courses for thousands of dogs and their owners for puppy, obedience, and serious behavior issues of all kinds, including severe fear and aggression cases.

 

  • She has over 1000 hours of professional narcotics detection training with a large group of dogs, with mentors Ron Gaunt and Amy Herot (Co-founders of National Association of Canine Scent Work [NACSW™] and K9 Nose Work®) from 2004-2006.

 

  • Personally passed professional certifications (both written and search tests) in narcotics detection (POST standards) with Evolution K9 in northern California and with the Oxnard Police Department separately with two different dogs (German Shepherd and Papillon, probably the first and only in narcotics detection).

 

  • She has been a National Association of Canine Scent Work™ Judge and Certifying Official (C.O.) since 2011 and is a C.O. for all levels of trials including Elite and Summit level. She is also a Supervising C.O.

 

  • She is a NACSW™ Senior Faculty Member and has collaborated with Founders and Faculty to create and teach Continuing Education courses for CNWI (Certified Nose Work Instructors).

 

  • She has presented and taught over 30 seminars nationally in K9 Nose Work since 2011.

 

  • She has trained and trialed her own dog, Konner, a German Shepherd, in K9 Nose Work® up through Elite Champion (1000 points in Elite Division) and is currently trialing with pronounced designations and high placements in searches in the new NACSW™ Summit Division for Elite Champion teams. She has also begun training her Belgian shepherd puppy, Zephyr, in K9 Nose Work®.

 

  • She has taught at 13 different K9 Nose Work® Training Camps since 2011 - invited by the Camp Director and Founders. Over 100 dogs and owners attend each camp and the instructors each teach 3 sessions a day with different groups each day for four days each Camp.

  • She has been teaching K9 Nose Work® classes and private sessions weekly every year since 2010.

 

  • She has attended 3 of the NACSW™ Instructor certification courses in total since 2011 (only one is required), to increase her own learning, and completed all certification requirements and accrues yearly CEUs to maintain this certification..

 

  • She has attended 16 different seminars in K9 Nose Work with the founders of NACSW for her own learning.

 

  • Formal education in Canine Training and Behavior, initially at live-in 4 month program at Triple Crown School for dog trainers in 2001-2002.

 

  • Has attended a multitude of training and behavior seminars, webinars, workshops, read books, etc. with the top names in behavior every year since 2001. (Patricia McConnell, Sue Sternberg, Ian Dunbar, Gary Wilkes, Leslie DeFusco, Dr. Sophia Yin, Jean Donaldson, Karen Overall, Suzanne Clothier, Mary Burch, etc.).
